Last month, the Honourable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, had an exciting visit to the Haileybury Golf Club and the Haileybury Beach Motel after both businesses recently received a combined funding amount of $196,250 from the Government of Canada.

The Haileybury Golf Course received $100,000 from the Department of Diversity, Inclusion, and Persons with Disabilities, through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). The money will be used to install an accessible elevator and accessible washroom in the clubhouse.

Rota says, “It was great to see how these two investments are benefitting small business owners in Haileybury. The funding the Haileybury Golf Course is receiving will make a huge difference in making their space more accessible for persons with disabilities.”

“The accessible lift will provide opportunities for all family members to participate in family celebrations at Haileybury Golf Club,” says club manager Paul Gordon.  “Stairs and washroom facilities for those with mobility restrictions can easily participate in events in the dining hall that has full accessibility along with a washroom to address their needs.  The support of the federal government in making this a reality has been greatly appreciated and we were pleased to show MP Rota our planning for the fall,” he concluded.

The second investment, which was previously announced last year through the Department of FedNor, was a $96,250 non-repayable investment for the Haileybury Beach Motel through the Tourism Relief Fund. Rota says, “The Haileybury Beach Motel was able to use the money to modernize the motel and improve the tourist experience. Those improvements will help strengthening local tourism and the economy by drawing more tourists to the area.”

Vimla Menezes, said, “The FedNor funding helped us upgrade our facilities and create a take-out restaurant – Beach Bitez, within our premises. The guests who stay with the Haileybury Beach Motel, now have a more comfortable living space and hot breakfast provided with their stay. The take-out is also open to the residents of, and other visitors to the Timiskaming Shores area. We have also partnered with local organizations/businesses (museums, golf course etc.)  to provide a more fulfilling experience to our guests. Our goal is to make this region the destination of choice to the tourists and attract more visitors, thereby indirectly benefitting local businesses. We are truly grateful to the Federal Government and more specifically MP Anthony Rota for their support to the Haileybury Beach Motel and the regional tourism industry.”

Rota adds, “Investing in the North continues to help in creating opportunities for small businesses owners and build towards a thriving economy across Nipissing-Timiskaming. I want to Congratulate Paul, Dennis and their staff at the Haileybury Golf Course, as well as Vimla and her team at the Haileybury Beach Motel, and wish you all good luck in your future endeavors.”
