Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, announced today that the Government of Canada is investing $39,000 to support Canada Day and National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations across the riding. Canadian Heritage’s support will go towards a number of events, and activities for the community to enjoy. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
Both the Corporation of the Municipality of Powassan and the Corporation of the City of North Bay’s O’Canada Day Committee will receive funds to invest in their upcoming Canada Day celebrations. Temagami First Nation will receive funding for their Anishinaabe Giizhigan event, while Keepers of the Circle will use funds received towards the Annual National Indigenous Peoples Day Pow Wow in the District of Temiskaming. Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs will also benefit from the funding, and put it towards their Rayonnement culturel, un Festin de Traditions du 21 juin au 1er Juillet.
Residents are encouraged to participate in these community activities and learn more about the ethnic, linguistic, cultural and artistic diversity that makes Canada an inclusive country that so many are proud to call home.
