Member of Parliament for Nipissing—Timiskaming
Government of Canada funding showcase of Northern Ontario mining supply and services industry at international mining convention
May 15, 2024

Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, today announced a FedNor investment of $265,000 in support of the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase (NOMS). The funds will allow the City of Temiskaming Shores to again establish the long-running NOMS pavilion at this year’s Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum convention, CIM Connect 2024. The pavilion will accommodate over 25 mining supply and services businesses and organizations from across Northern Ontario. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

The convention, which takes place May 12-15 in Vancouver, provides opportunities for participants to establish valuable commercial partnerships, explore and test products, and bring together industry professionals to engage in learning and discussions on how Canadians can strategically embrace innovation.

The NOMS pavilion will promote and further develop Northern Ontario’s mining reputation while encouraging mining development in the region. NOMS exhibitors will have opportunities for regional businesses and organizations to build relationships and collaborations; attract investments; showcase their technologies, products, and services; and learn about other technologies, products, services, and competitors.

Anticipated benefits of this investment include the creation of new sales and contracts, increased mining development in Northern Ontario, and the development and expansion of regional businesses, their products and services, and technologies.

“The mining and natural resource industries are strong economic drivers for our region and create thousands of good-paying jobs for middle-class families in Northern Ontario. This investment in the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase at CIM Connect 2024 will help our industries find new opportunities and grow. It’s good news for younger generations that want to stay in Northern Ontario and make a good living for years to come.”

“Mining plays a critical role in the economy of Northern Ontario and supports good-paying jobs across the region. That is why I am proud that the Government of Canada through FedNor is supporting the City of Temiskaming Shores and their continued promotion of Nipissing-Timiskaming, and our region as a whole, through the Northern Ontario Mining Showcase.”

“The Northern Ontario Mining Showcase has been a real beacon of success, and we are proud to be bringing that success back to CIM Connect once again. This partnership with FedNor has created new opportunities, growth, and success for the businesses and organizations who participate in the pavilion, and it’s a wonderful reflection and extension of the great history of mining in Temiskaming Shores and across Northern Ontario.”
