Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, today announced that the Government of Canada is investing $270,000 to help create and advance economic development opportunities in the Municipality of Temagami.
Rota says, “Today’s announcement is an investment in the immediate and long-term economic success of the Municipality of Temagami. When communities have the resources they need to support businesses and pursue economic opportunities, they are strong and vibrant. That’s what we are seeing here in Temagami and this EDO position means more good things are on the way in the form of jobs, growth and a strong economy.”
Provided through FedNor’s Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario (CIINO), the funding will enable the Municipality of Temagami to hire an Economic Development Officer (EDO) for a three-year period. While on the job, the EDO will undertake and advance economic priorities to help create jobs, strengthen the economy and position community for sustainable growth and prosperity. Key areas of focus for EDO will include broadband expansion, tourism, waterfront, land and commercial development, revitalizing the downtown, and more.
Dan O’Mara, Mayor of the Municipality of Temagami says, “This is great news for our community! Having a full-time EDO on staff means we can pursue new opportunities and priority projects that will fuel our economy, create gobs, growth and businesses opportunities. We are pleased that FedNor recognizes the importance of this role and is stepping up to fund the position for a three-year period.”
Strong economies need strong and growing communities. That is why the Government of Canada is proud to be investing in projects like this one, which supports community economic development, business growth, strategic planning, and job creation in Northern Ontario.
