Founded in 2018, Gateway City Brewery is an award-winning brewery that has built its reputation as a premier independent craft brewery with a loyal following. The company prides itself on manufacturing high-quality craft beer that is distributed locally and across the region.
Today, Gateway City Brewery received support from the Government of Canada to assist in the future growth of the local business.
A repayable FedNor contribution of $534,422 was made to support the expansion and modernization of Gateway City Brewery. The Honourable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, says “Communities in Nipissing-Timiskaming know the importance of supporting local businesses. North Bay has done that with Gateway City Brewery. With this FedNor investment, I look forward to seeing the business grow, expand and contribute to the economic success of North Bay for years to come.”
This strategic investment will allow Gateway City Brewery to expand its product line and increase its revenue stream, while achieving production and distribution efficiencies. The move to a larger space will also help the company purchase new equipment that will increase production capacity, positioning them to expand their distribution to stores within the North and across Ontario. The modern space will allow the brewery to enhance customer experiences and host events that appeal to both the local and tourism markets. The investment is expected to create at least nine jobs in the first three years of the expansion.
Jeff Hodge, Co-Founder, Gateway City Brewery says, “We are excited to be receiving support from FedNor as we look to grow and expand our business. We are proud of our community and are thrilled that this investment will take us to the next level and allow us to continue to contribute to a strong, local economy here in North Bay.”
Rota adds, “Strong local economies rely on local businesses. That is why I’m pleased to see the Government of Canada, and specifically FedNor, investing in projects like these, which support innovation and technology adoption while helping business to start up, scale up, and create local jobs in Northern Ontario.”
Funding for today’s announcement was provided through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program. REGI is a national funding program which supports the growth of Canadian businesses, their expansion into new markets and their adoption of new technologies and processes. FedNor delivers the program funding in Northern Ontario and works to support business scale-up, increase commercialization rates and enhance regional cluster development resulting in job creation in the region. Through REGI and its other funding programs, FedNor continues to promote a more innovative, sustainable and inclusive economy for Northern Ontario.
