The Municipality of Temagami are in the process of hiring a new Economic Development Officer, and the process will be aided in part by a FedNor investment of $270,000 over a three-year period. The investment is expected to enable the development and implementation of a number of economic opportunities, including those in tourism and business development.
The Honourable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming says, “This is an important investment for FedNor to make to ensure the Municipality of Temagami can look for opportunities to create jobs, increase community initiatives, and grow their economic sector.”
The funding comes through the Community Investment Initiative (CIIO) for Northern Ontario and is applicable to rural municipalities and First Nations communities in the north who do not have a dedicated full-time economic development officer position.
Dan O’Mara, Mayor of the Municipality of Temagami says, “Set out in our current Strategic Plan several opportunities and directions were noted. Temagami as a brand and a location gives way to a lot of potential and this new EDO position and the newly established Economic and Development Committee can now focus on taking all of this to the next level.”
O’Mara adds, “We are excited, and we look forward to seeing things happen that will benefit our entire community and region.”
Rota says, “The Municipality of Temagami has done a terrific job in putting together an economic plan that identifies opportunities they hope to capitalize on. This funding through FedNor will provide the necessary assistance to help them increase that potential.”
