The Department of Canadian Heritage is investing $94,250 to assist the Temiskaming Art Galley with a new exhibit called Muriel Newton-White: The Life and Works of a Northern Pioneer Artist.
The Honourable Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming says, “It is great to see the Temiskaming Art Gallery getting the assistance they need for this project.”
He adds, “Museums and cultural groups have an important role to play in the economic recovery and vitality of our region. It is important for them to continue to see the support and commitment from the Federal Government so they can continue providing these important events and projects for the people of Nipissing-Timiskaming.”
The funding is carried under the Museums Assistance Program and will be allocated over the next two fiscal years through 2023-2025.
Melissa La Porte is the Director / Curator of the gallery, and she says, “This generous financial support will help the Temiskaming Art Gallery succeed in its mission to preserve our vibrant artistic heritage in Temiskaming and to increase accessibility to our permanent collection and the diverse paintings, illustrations, writings and craftworks of Muriel Newton-White.”
The Museums Assistance Program (MAP) supports heritage institutions and workers in the preservation and presentation of heritage collections. The program fosters the preservation of Indigenous culture and facilitates access to heritage collections for all Canadians. It also promotes professional knowledge, skills and practices related to key museum functions.
The MAP provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions through several components, and each has its own eligibility criteria.
